Russia and Japan continue to maintain working-level interactions despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, according to the Russian Ambassador to Japan, Nikolai Nozdrev. The diplomat emphasized that both nations are focused on pragmatic cooperation to address immediate issues, particularly through defense channels and military attachés.
Ambassador Nozdrev stressed that full-scale bilateral relations cannot resume unless Japan's political establishment abandons its anti-Russian stance. "Without a genuine shift in Japan's policy, not just in words but in actions, meaningful progress is unlikely," he stated.
The ambassador also highlighted that Russia is not interested in maintaining contacts for the sake of appearances. Instead, Moscow prioritizes substantive dialogue aimed at resolving specific challenges.
As both nations navigate complex geopolitical landscapes, the future of Russia-Japan relations remains uncertain, with territorial disputes and political differences continuing to hinder deeper collaboration.
